Why am I doing this?
Another blog to Read?
I was initially very skeptical about starting a blog. There’s something discouraging and disheartening about doing something that so many others have done before me, and so well. Call it a lapse of confidence, or just sheer laziness, but I really wasn’t certain that I could bring anything new to the table.
As I began to encourage myself more, and with the help of others as well, I started this as a means to teach people what I truly believe: that cooking, and making the time to do so, is the most important thing you can possibly do with your time.

Cooking is what keeps cultures alive. It’s one of the longest traditions passed down in families, relationships, people to people. It’s a way for ideas to be shared, enjoyed together and then enjoyed again and again for years to come. Sharing recipes and sharing food can be done so many different ways — orally, literary, tangibly — and it doesn’t matter who you are to do so.
Right now the world is faced with a very scary truth: people don’t want to commit the time to cooking. Or they don’t know how. Or they want to and have no idea where to start. I totally get it, jobs are so demanding and the pace of life has sped up rapidly. There are so many obstacles we’ve created as human beings, but our determination to create convenience and efficiencies has completely backfired in terms of what we choose to put on our plates. In those efforts we created deadly shortcuts that not only have affected our population’s health, but also placed a halt on growing cultures.
When true time and effort is taken away from a good meal or a good product, you’re breaking traditions and denouncing years and years of hard work. It takes hours to make a beautiful pot of short ribs. It takes months to create a ripened cheese or a bottle of wine. Years for that balsamic vinegar or container of miso.
Time is the most important ingredient. Care is arguably just as essential. These realizations and truths made me really happy that there are so many blogs out there with wonderful recipes and beautiful pictures. Not everyone has succumbed to the shortcuts and conveniences of life, I just hope that my blog can help make those numbers decrease even more.
Cooking is a fun and rewarding activity. I want this blog to show people that it’s not work, not a job. It can be easy, it can be challenging, and best of all, you’re feeding yourself in more ways than just filling your stomach (which doesn’t hurt!).
